This is a truly excellent text. It is well written, insightful, and well organized. The topic seems like one that would make for a hard read, but the examples and exercises livened it up to no end.
Great text with clear explanations - appropriate for graduate level work. Well-written - not too technical or dry. A very useful tool!
Very insightful information
It was supposed to be the text for a class, but I actually needed a different book. That's not the book's fault.
Don't get me wrong this is a very well-written book. It's informative, current, and even entertaining.If you need this book, though, get it in a physical format. This is my first time buying and reading a book on Amazon's Kindle app, and every time I need to access this book it's been a frustrating experience. Clicking to go on to the next page will take you back to the last chapter. It will randomly resize itself so passages aren't in the same place. And, even though I've had the book for a few months now, it will take a while to load between pages and navigation.Maybe it's just that the Kindle app doesn't work all that well with Windows 10, but I regret not buying the paperback version of this book as then I would have given it five stars. If you like using Kindle, by all means, go ahead. But if you're a e-book scrub like me, you're better off with the print version.
I teach for an MLIS program and Bell's text has always been a mainstay. I believe she outdid herself in this latest edition. The introduction alone is such a practical and prescient piece. Anybody involved in database selection would find it useful. It is indispensable for anyone entering academic librarianship.
