About the Author
Linda Weiner, MSW, LCSW, is co-director of the Institute for Sexual & Relationship Therapy & Training, providing sex and relationship therapy, supervision, and training. She is a speaker, writer, adjunct professor at the Brown School, Washington University in St. Louis, and was formerly a research and clinical associate at Masters & Johnson Institute. Ms. Weiner is a diplomate in clinical social work, a certified diplomate in sexology (American Board of Sexology), and is certified by the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists as a sex therapist, supervisor, and CE provider. Constance Avery-Clark, PhD, is co-director of the Institute for Sexual & Relationship Therapy & Training, an AASECT-certified diplomate in sex therapy and CE provider, and a certified diplomate in Sexology, American Board of Sexology. She has been a practicing licensed psychologist in Boca Raton, Florida, for 28 years. Dr. Avery-Clark has one doctoral degree in clinical psychology and another in psychology-Jungian Studies. She was formerly a research and clinical associate at Masters & Johnson Institute. She specializes in treating sexual, relationship, and meaning-of-life concerns, and has published and lectured nationally, including an appearance on the Today Show.

I am a Clinical Psychologist working at a Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder unit. I am also pursuing education in sex therapy to better help my clients with PTSD to experience intimacy and close relationships with significant others in their lives. This book is an excellent, practical resource. The authors clarify Masters and Johnson's intended instructions for Sensate Focus, and given the authors' training at Masters and Johnson's training institute, I fully trust their knowledge and approach. The instructions provided are clear. The illustrations are also truly beautiful - they exemplify diversity (ethnic, of sexual orientation, and even representing people of different body shapes and abilities), and truly give the impression that what is taking place is not just sex, but intimacy and meaningful human connection. Thank you, authors. A very helpful and inspired work that will remain on my shelf and inform my practice for years to come.
Finally a book on what Sensate Focus really is. There is so much misinformation out there on the subject, I am grateful to Linda and Constance for writing such a useful, honest and practical book. I have already used it with my clients. I love the illustrations, they make it easy to show clients what to do instead of having to explain them. Well done authors. A much needed book on the subject.

This book is a must have for any professional working with couples and their sex lives. It's beautifully written and works as a great guide when working with couples. MUST HAVE!
Having dealt with anxiety around sexual performance for most of my adult life, I've visited with doctors, psychologists, taken prescriptions and read plenty of books and online guides to figure out the best way to manage my way to a positive and healthy sexual life. This book has done an amazing job in teaching a method towards better intimacy and has helped take away a lot of the anxiety which has helped my wife and I have a better sexual life. The book is easy to read, the illustrations are tasteful and helpful, the writing is intelligent while being easy to comprehend and most importantly my wife found it as helpful towards understanding things as I did. Since reading this book and utilizing the couples exercises within I've found my libido increase and also have had to rely on medicines less as well.
